Regional Food Sensations® in Schools is a nutrition education and cooking program tailored and adapted for regional and remote schools and communities.

Regional Food Sensations® in Schools

All registered School Breakfast Program schools are eligible to apply for FREE Food Sensations® nutrition education and cooking sessions. Food Sensations® aims to improve knowledge and understanding of nutritious foods, and provide the skills to purchase and prepare them.

Foodbank WA's regional team travel to all regions in WA visiting schools to facilitate Food Sensations® sessions. Regional schools can book:

  • Student sessions for primary and high school student groups
  • Educator Training for school teaching staff
  • Parent sessions

Food Sensations® sessions for students include:

  • Interactive education activities to teach basic nutrition principals such as food purchasing, Australian Dietary Guidelines, budgeting, meal planning, food preparation and safe food handling. All lessons are linked to the Australian National Curriculum and are tailored to suit the learning requirements of student groups and adapted for the local regional context.

  • A hands-on cooking workshop using locally available ingredients.

  • Sessions facilitated by tertiary qualified nutritionists and dietitians.

  • Sessions are delivered on-site at schools in a suitable room (wet area, home economics room) with access to tables, water and power.

  • Cooking ingredients and equipment for sessions are provided by Foodbank WA.
