Fuel Your Future is committed to improving food literacy amongst youth aged 12-18 years in the Pilbara region, helping them make good food choices and providing them with the skills and confidence to make delicious, healthy, nourishing food.

Fuel Your Future - Regional

Fuel Your Future - Regional is a new venture for Foodbank WA, funded by BHP Billiton and based on an adolescent focused food literacy and cooking skills program developed for the WA Department of Health.

The program involves four face-to-face workshops, facilitated by a qualified nutritionist, at which youth are guided through recipes step by step. All ingredients and recipes are provided by Foodbank WA, ith participants joining together to eat what they've created at the end of the workshop. Workshops are conducted in youth friendly settings (such as youth centres or schools) to ensure optimal participant comfort and invovlement. Each workshop is focused on youth participation in fun, hands-on activities, including:

  • Australian Guide to Healthy Eating
  • Knife safety
  • Food safety
  • Hand hygiene
  • Fat, Sugar & Salt investigation
  • Food label reading, and
  • Cooking

Fuel Your Future - Regional is all about equipping youth wieht the tools, knowledge and skills they need ot put the best fuel in their 'vehicle' - their body! By getting youth into the kitchen, developing their cooking skills and producing meals that are delicious and healthy, we aim to assist in the reduction of overweight and obesity, reducing their chances of developing chronic health conditions.
